The 29th October 2017 Khanacross and Motorkhana results

Round ten of the club championship was held on Sunday 29th October, which saw an influx of new members join the club for this event.

Making a welcome return to racing after three years was former club champion Bruce Perry, this time accompanied by his twin boys, Cain and Seth.

Stu MacDonald and daughter Jema from Cairns have swapped pedal power for horsepower and joined the club as well.

We also finally got to see Rob Bassett’s Toyota MR2 that we have been hearing about the build of all year, and Zed Thackray’s younger brother Kodi finally turned twelve and was able to compete as well.

With Heath Barry’s Nissan Micra loaded on the trailer ready for the long haul south for the Australian titles in Melbourne, Barry drove Kara North’s Ford Laser for this event.

This set up an epic battle between the two as they swapped fastest times through out the day. The only person to get close to them was Shane Buchanan in his V8 powered Mitsubishi Starion who managed one red box for a fastest time.

After nine runs it was Barry who reined supreme beating home North and Buchanan.

Driving his wife’s old Kia Rio that he had donated to the club several years ago, Bruce showed that he has lost none of the speed that saw him win two club championships with a strong fourth place finish.

With the club falcon now dead Mario Russo stepped into the Holden Barina and finished an impressive fifth outright.

Despite it being the first time he had driven the car or track, Rob Bassett was happy with his seventh place and the car looks to have potential once he gets the set up right.

It was a battle of the siblings in the junior motorkhana. Last years champ, Zed Thackray showed his experience to win the event but was pushed all the way by his younger brother, Kodi.

Kodi did well to finish second in just his first event and could be driver to watch in the future.

Twins, Seth and Cain battled all day for the last spot on the podium with Seth just edging out brother Cain for third spot, while Emily Oorthuysen finished fourth outright
